Abstract
This paper addresses a comprehensive comparative study focusing on the superiority of electric propulsion systems over diesel and hybrid alternatives in Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) and container ships. The study includes the design and analysis of $\text{RoRo}$ and container ships incorporating diesel, hybrid, and electric propulsion systems. Key performance indicators such as emissions, initial cost, operational cost, maintenance cost, and fuel cost are examined to evaluate the performance of these systems. By conducting analyses across different cases within each propulsion system, the study provides a detailed assessment of electric vessels' technical and economic feasibility. Additionally, optimization technique are applied to enhance the reliability of the results. The findings are helpful in understanding the benefits of electric propulsion systems for RoRo and container ships, guiding decision-makers towards sustainable and economically advantageous choices in vessel design and operations.
