Abstract
The article presents an algorithm for detecting and separating the iris from other parts of the human eye. Iris detection is performed by sequentially implementing an edge detector and Hough transform for pupil detection and an iris boundary detection algorithm. Overall image segmentation involves separating the iris from the rest of the eye and removing noise from the image. Noises can be from the quality of image capture or the placement of eyelashes, eyelids and reflections. After segmentation, the iris is stored in a specific format. The software product used is MATLAB.
