Abstract
In this paper, starting with a brief background on electrosurgery, we demonstrate that power electronics supported by feedback control is on the verge of making a major impact on the advancement of this medical discipline. We detail recent reported advances in the closed-loop precision power control using high-frequency power electronics, showing a pathway towards reducing collateral damage in electrosurgery to enable better surgical outcomes. In vivo extension of the authors' previous dead tissue, electrosurgical cutting mode closed loop results is shown, and the challenges that arose during this extension and are germane to the closed-loop electrosurgery are indicated.
