Abstract
We have developed a delay-line anode for microchannel plate detectors (MCP) and MCP-based image intensifiers for position and time sensitive single particle/photon detection. In combination with image intensifiers this technique is not only useful for single photon detection at UV and visible wavelengths. Using an adequate scintillator and an optics, position and time of single X-rays, neutrons (fast and thermal) or other energetic particles can be determined. We have optimised the imaging characteristics for high count rate, precise timing information and improved position resolution and are now performing first test experiments for the position and time sensitive detection of X-rays and fast neutrons on a large scintillator (Fast Neutron Resonance Radiography).
