A new AMS radiocarbon date for Middle Paleolithic Layer 4 of Ripiceni-Izvor, Romania

Abstract
An AMS date is presented for the Middle Paleolithic Layer 4 of Ripiceni-Izvor, Romania. The age of > 45,500 14C BP provides a minimum age for Layer 4 and indicates that previous age assessments for the Middle Paleolithic of Ripiceni-Izvor, obtained through conventional radiocarbon, underestimated the age of the level. The date further questions the late survival of the Middle Paleolithic in southeastern Europe
