Abstract
The paper is based on my daughter's reading response before 12, aiming to study how ancient stories influence modern children and how they think about ancient stories. Taking my daughter's addiction to prince and princess stories as a cut-in point, I explore the complicated intertexuality between ancient stories and modern children's reading response in social and cultural context. Centering on three important elements of classic fairy tales: romance, beauty and diligence, the paper also tries to discover how the ancient stories narrate the ideology and why it changes in modern society.
