Abstract
This article describes the nursing experience of physiological response in a male patient drug abuser with recurrent spinal suppuration osteomyelitis. The date were collected though Gordon 11 Function Health Patterns with nursing care, observation, physical assessment and conversation during May 27 to August 8, 2019. The identified nursing problems were persistent infection, physical dysfunction and anxiety. We developed a good nurse-patient relationship through enhanced listening skills and a caring attitude. Pain and infection related to post-operation were provided. The patient recovered muscle power though rehabilitation team work and family members' support. He also experienced relief of uncomfortable symptoms and decreased anxiety though specific nursing care, although this patient relapsed to drug use again owing to constant withdrawal symptoms as there is no methadone therapy treatment in our hospital; thus we suggested a consulting setting for clinical nurses who care for and support such drug abuser patients. Such patients could be encouraged though counseling and caring to decrease drug use. This paper could be used as a reference for clinical nurses caring for patients with the same diagnosis.
