Abstract
Direct extraction of sodium hydroxide from water remains a challenging issue. Herein, we report a (boric acid)-pendent porous organic polymer (namely ECUT-POP-4) to access the direct extraction of sodium hydroxide from water. ECUT-POP-4 is synthesized from Knoevenagel polymerization and shows permanent porosity with BET surface area of 310 m2/g and pore size of 1.4 nm. ECUT-POP-4 can greatly reduce a NaOH solution from pH = 11 to pH = 8.0, and show a NaOH uptake capacity as high as ∼1.99 g/g, suggesting its superior application in treating alkaline wastewater.
