Abstract
Highlights •Based on spherical sponge-inspired design, a photocatalytic adsorbent was prepared.•CSCZ had high adsorption capacity, notable rate constant, and enhanced stability.•The maximum adsorption capacity of CSCZ for Cr(VI) was determined to be 171.2 mg/g.•The photocatalytic rate constant of CSCZ was 11 times higher than that of Cu-ZIF-8.•A mechanism of synergistic adsorption and photocatalysis by CSCZ was proposed.
