Abstract
Highlights •Thin films of gas-phase Co clusters deposited into an Fe matrix were produced.•The magnetisation of the FeCo thin films is above the Slater-Pauling curve.•The bcc Co nanoparticles exhibit a magnetic moment 30 % higher than the bulk value.
