Abstract
Highlights •FCC aims to improve clinical outcomes for children and their families,but its practical deployment has been difficult, in African contexts.•Communication, participation, and collaboration, as well as respect and dignity, have all been proved to be helpful in NICUs and PICUs.•Additional research is needed to provide the contextual evidence required for the application of FCC, particularly in African ICUs.
