Highlights •Stable tannic acid-based covalent crosslinked 3D network is facilely fabricated.•High selectivity of Pb2+ is due to its specific pairing with carbonyl and hydroxyl.•TA@PMAM features anti-interference, reusability and broad-spectrum antimicrobial.•Calculations and cycling experiments confirm the robust attachment of TA.
