Abstract
Highlights •Up-regulated vimentin but down-regulated E-cadherin were observed in SCLC cells overexpressing the stemness marker CD44v6.•Aneuploid CD31- CTCs, CD31+ CTECs, and their CD44v6+ subtypes are correlated with distant metastasis in SCLC.•A combination of CTC baseline quantities and their quantitative variation trends can timely index the patients’ prognosis.•Similar to staging, CD44v6+/CD31- CTCs detected amid therapy are an independent prognosticator for both poor PFS and OS.•Longitudinal detection of SCLC CD44v6+ CTCs, CTECs enables novel clinical stratification and improves prognostic prediction.
