Abstract
An analytical solution for the dynamic response of single floating pipe piles subjected to axial dynamic loads in a homogeneous viscoelastic soil layer is presented in this paper. The governing equations of the pile-soil system are formulated by modelling the outer and inner soil as a Tajimi-type viscoelastic continuum, while the pipe pile and its underlying soil column are regarded as one-dimensional rods. Closed-form expressions of the external and internal dynamic soil resistances developed along the pile shaft are derived, and the vertical displacement and dynamic stiffness of the pile are then obtained by using the boundary and continuity conditions. The validity of the proposed solution is then verified through comparison with two existing studies. Finally, the differences in dynamic stiffness between floating pipe piles and floating solid piles with the same cross-sectional area are discussed, and a sensitivity analysis of the dynamic stiffness and the external and internal soil resistances concerning the main problem parameters is conducted.
