Highlights •Neurobiological correlates of sleep reactivity and dysfunctional beliefs found in insomniac elderly.•Sleep reactivity linked to stronger theta and delta power across entire brain regions.•Sleep reactivity indicates widespread cortical deactivation, poor stress-coping.•Dysfunctional beliefs linked to increased beta and high-beta power (hyperarousal).•Dysfunctional beliefs suggest excessive rumination, cognitive inflexibility.
