Abstract
Highlights •A hydrogel bead for the intestinal targeted release of kidney tea saponins was prepared.•Hydrogel beads consist of porous starch, sodium alginate and xanthan gum.•Porous starch was prepared by hydrolysis with a combination of α-amylase and amyloglucosidase.•The prepared hydrogel beads achieved a high encapsulation rate of 79.00 ± 1.22 %.•Over 80 % of kidney tea saponins can be transported to the intestinal tract.
