Abstract
Highlights •A thermal insulation composite aerogel/expanded perlite (AEP) had been prepared.•AEP shows the characteristics of mesoporous, chemical stability and hydrophobicity.•The thermal conductivity of AEP was less than EP due to filling of aerogel.•A new clue for aerogel applied in thermal insulation materials was proposed.
