Abstract
Highlights •Effects of organic matters on the EAB sensors' sensitivity were investigated.•Propionate rather than acetate was suit for feeding sensitive sensors.•Energy metabolic suppression and ROS attack led to high sensitivity.•Microbial function difference was closely related to the sensitivity change.•Low concentration of propionate was more suit for high sensitivity.
