Abstract
The article discusses the U.S. Department of Health's Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) which provide a framework to address health disparities by offering services responsive to individual cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, and health literacy levels. CLAS standards employ broad definitions of culture and health, such as diversity awareness and training for organization leaders and data collection on patients' ethnicity to achieve health equity.
