Abstract
The article reports on the move by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to announce its intention to accept the IECEx certification system issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It claims that the IEC is a European-based standards organization that develops electrotechnical standards and conformity assessment schemes in all fields of electrotechnology. IECEx is a global certification scheme for equipment and services in potentially explosive atmospheres.
