Abstract
The article presents a study which described the biomechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors 12 months after discharge from the ICU. Electromyography data showed no impairment of motor activation strategy or central motor drive. It concluded that the functional deficits experienced by ICU survivors originate in muscle tissue instead of the nervous system.
