Abstract
The article focuses on the development of common information model (CIM), as part of the Metafor project, which is use for Earth system simulations. It describes the key properties and mechanism by which the CIM was developed and how it has been used in experiments. The versions of concepts and application and the controlled vocabularies developed in the context of supporting the fifth Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) is presented.
