Abstract
The article reports on disability-adjusted life years (DALY) for 291 diseases and injuries in 21 regions during the period 1990-2010. DALYs remained much the same between 1990 and 2010, but a shift occurred in DALY composition with the contribution of child death and disability among those younger than 5-years-old. The shift showed DALYs declining to 25 percent in 2010 from 41 percent in 1990. In 2010, 54 percent of DALYs were due to non-communicable diseases, up from 43 percent in 1990.
