Abstract
An essay is presented on the importance of public health considerations in the definitions of poor quality medicines to improve drug quality and public health in developing countries. It discusses the interventions for the improvement of the quality of medicines in response to the concerns that came about due to poor science and commercial tensions. The authors argue that World Health Organization (WHO) initiatives avoid intellectual property (IP) concerns related to counterfeit medicines.
