Abstract
The article discusses the observations of Glasgow Missionary Society member Reverend James Laing on patterns of church service attendance in Burnshill and Lovedale on the Eastern Cape of South Africa in 1834. The author suggests that the attendance pattern resembles the Fibonacci sequence, named after Italian mathematician Leonardo Pisano or Leonardo Fibonacci. The author also comments on the writings of Scottish socialist Dora Taylor, who wrote about missionaries in the 1950s under the pseudonym Nosipho Majeke.
