Abstract
The article discusses the dating technology known as optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, which is a method that measures the time since grains of either feldspar or quartz were exposed to light. It accomplishes this by measuring the energy of electrons that are trapped in the grains’ crystal lattices. A laboratory run by Zenobia Jacobs and Bert Roberts at the University of Wollongong is specifically examined, and the OSL method is contrasted with radiocarbon dating. A history of the technology employed in OSL dating is also provided.
