Abstract
The article discusses an investigation of 14 cases of laboratory-confirmed invasive listeriosis reported to the Louisiana Office of Public Health (OPH) during January-June 2010. The investigation was coordinated with the U.S. Centers of Disease Control (CDC), the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) starting July 26, 2011. Three patients admitted eating hog head cheese, leading to the recall of 500,000 pounds of the product and sausage due to possible contamination of L. monocytogenes.
