Abstract
The article discusses a study which systematically analysed health examination surveys and epidemiological studies to investigate national, regional, and global trends in body-mass index (BMI) since 1980. A Bayesian hierarchical model was used by the researchers to estimate mean BMI by age, country, and year. The study found an increase in mean BMI between 1980 and 2008 worldwide. The need for interventions and policies to reverse the trend is cited.
