Abstract
Introduction: Health care workers are exposed to many risk factors during their medical activities. One of these factors is blood exposure accidents who may be very dangerous by the capacity of transmitting infections. The most common infections are viral hepatitis and infection with human immunodeficiency virus. Purpose: The study provides the number of blood exposure accidents and it investigates the importance of blood exposure accidents as a risk factor in blood transmitted infections. Material and methods: The study included the health care workers from Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases and Cardiac Transplant from Targu Mures. The statistic was processed by a software who measured the significance of the results . Results: In the period of 2008-2009, the number of the blood exposure accidents was 32. The number of blood exposure accidents is different from one category of employees to another: 5 for doctors, 11 for nurses and 16 for auxiliary employees. Conclusions: The number of blood exposure accidents is different from one category to another. The number of blood exposure accidents is the highest for auxiliary employees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
