Abstract
The article discusses the validation of a modified Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) aerosol optical depth retrieval algorithm over Central Europe. It assesses the performance of a modified version of an AVHRR aerosol optical depth retrieval algorithm for land surfaces. It concludes on the method introduced and from its validation to the use of AVHRR data with varied calibration schemes being looked into leads to the compilation of an aerosol long-term climatology in the region.
