Abstract
The article discusses research on the range and distribution of various species of Carnivora in South America. It references a study by J. Adrian Monjeau at the Universidad Atlántida in Argentina, and his colleagues, published in an issue of "Mastozoologia Neotropical." The researchers analyzed the role of latitude and area in the species richness distribution of terrestrial carnivores in the region as well as the abiotic factors like spatial heterogeneity and available energy. They found that a major thermodynamic challenge for homoeothermic organisms like carnivores is the process of obtaining more energy from their prey than what they expend in catching them.
