Abstract
This article presents information on "accreditation as incentive'' program, for journalism/mass communications, started by several states of the U.S., in 1987. Higher education bodies of Louisiana and Tennessee are using accreditation as one factor in their efforts to improve the quality of education in the universities and colleges of their respective states. The Louisiana "accreditation as incentive'' program is relatively new, initiated for journalism/mass communications in 1987. The Tennessee program of "Performance Funding" has been in operation since 1983. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission committed that state to a five-year performance funding program, beginning in 1983.
