Abstract
The authors comment on an article by J. E. Martin and M. J. Benton on correcting the crown clade definition of Crocodylia in vertebrate nomenclature. They suggest that the crown definition of Crocodylia by Benton and Martin should be abandoned. They elaborate on the arguments that crown clades might not be stable and a stable definition of Crocodylia already exists. They also argue on the claim that the meaning of Crocodylia was the same in standard textbooks on biological classification.
