Abstract
The article discusses the HIV/AIDS epidemic in relation to the African American community at the beginning of the 21st century. Statistics are given highlighting the risk levels of African American women and commentary is given noting the high impact of the disease on the population group. Discussion is offered focusing on popular dismissive attitudes of the U.S. population and within the African American community concerning the dangers of contracting the disease.
