Abstract
The article discusses the highlights of the third Open Science Conference held by the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) in collaboration with the International Arctic Science Committee in Saint Petersburg, Russia in July 2008. The theme for the year's event was "Arctic and Antarctic Perspectives on the International Polar Year." It had a total of 1,300 participants and held 29 sessions which covered topics such as status and change of the polar regions.
