Abstract
The article focuses on archaeological investigations launched at the Butrint port in Albania. It provides an overview of the geography and history of the Byzantine Butrint. Archaeological investigations at the site concentrated on the assessment of the evolution of the urban topography in the area by undertaking a survey of the walled city and its hinterland and by an excavation of the palace complex close to the Vivari channel. Excavations in the baptistry and palace areas revealed the short-lived occupation of the dry-stone wall structures in the site.
