Abstract
The article presents a study which uses time diary data collected around the turn of the 21st century to examine how daily activities vary by age and employment status among people over the age of 44. Data was drawn from eight developed countries, such as the United States, Australia and Sweden. Employment status was found to have a greater impact than age on time use behavior. Consistent age-related patterns were only found in the category of passive leisure. This category primarily involved watching television, but also included relaxing and listening to music.
