Abstract
The article focuses on how the Mildenhall Treasure, a hoard of Roman silver tableware, came to be in the British Museum's collection. The silver was uncovered in a field in West Row, England in 1942 after it had been struck by a plow owned by Sydney Ford, driven by Gordon Butcher, while plowing a field belonging to Fred Rolfe. Ford kept the treasure, but was convinced to declare it to the government by fellow antiquitarian Dr. Hugh Fawcett in 1946.
