Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the safety of the vaginal microbicide SPL7013 gel (Vivagel) when applied to the penis. Result shows that the most common genital adverse events (AEs) were genital pruritus and application site erythema. However, in conclusion, Vivagel was safe, acceptable to the public and shows no evidence of systemic absorption or toxicity when administered to the penis of both circumcised and uncircumcised men once a day for one week.
