Abstract
The article presents an update and forecast on political and economic conditions in Yemen, as of July 2008. The progress of plans by the government to liberalize and strengthen the business environment for the benefit of the private sector is expected to be slow and haphazard due to excessive bureaucracy and the unstable security climate. The World Bank has promised to provide extra financial assistance due to the worsening social welfare situation in Yemen caused by rising food costs.
