Abstract
The article discusses the implications of chronic pain to older people. The chronic pain is the pain that continues for a prolonged period which may or may not be associated with a recognizable disease process. It is stated that undertreated pain causes intrinsic suffering which can affect the function, mood and social life of older people. It is recommended that healthcare professionals should have a routine screening for unreported pains. The multimodal management using both pharmacological and nonpharmacological measures are beneficial than using one measure alone. The opioid drugs are found to be effective and safe which have low potential for addiction when used for managing pain in older people.
