Abstract
The article profiles educator William H. Elson. He assumed his duties as superintendent of Cleveland on May 14, 1906 after being unanimously elected to that position by the board of education. Elson was born in Ohio and graduated from the University of Indiana. He started as teacher in rural and small city schools and thereafter was named district superintendent of Indianapolis, Wisconsin and Michigan.
