Abstract
The chemical compositions of the essential oils of the aerial parts of Ephedra distachya, E. fragilis, and E. major from Italy were investigated by GC and GC/MS. The main constituents found in the oil of E. distachya were ethyl benzoate (46.9%), benzaldehyde (8.0%), and cis-calamenene (3.6%). In the oil of E. fragilis, (E)-phytol (10.1%), pentacosane (5.2%), 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (5.3%), cis-thujopsene (3.5%), and α-terpineol (3.0%) were the major components. The oil of E. major contained eugenol (4.3%), α-terpineol (3.7%) and methyl linoleate (3.5%) as main compnents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
