Abstract
Frailty is a state of high vulnerability for adverse health outcomes, including disability, dependency, falls, need for long-term care, and mortality. It is not synonymous with old age and can be present in younger individuals due to various factors. Frailty is characterized by the loss of biological reserves and requires a comprehensive assessment to develop a personalized treatment plan. Frailty significantly influences decision-making regarding ICU admission, and incorporating frailty assessments into admission criteria can improve patient outcomes and resource utilization. Effective communication with patients and their families is crucial in managing frailty in the ICU. [Extracted from the article]
