Abstract
This article explores the link between high blood pressure and markers of obesity in African children. It emphasizes the prevalence of hypertension in children and the potential long-term cardiovascular consequences. The article suggests that excess adiposity, particularly obesity, increases the risk of hypertension in children, with waist circumference being a potentially better predictor than other measures of obesity. The article calls for interventions such as promoting healthy eating and physical activity to address the rising rates of high blood pressure, hypertension, and obesity in African children. It emphasizes the importance of starting cardiovascular disease prevention early and highlights the role of healthcare professionals, schools, and families in implementing effective strategies.
