Abstract
"The Long Season" is a Chinese drama set in a steel town in Northeast China. The story follows two characters, Wang Xiang and Gong Biao, as they navigate the challenges of their declining town and investigate a murder. The show jumps between different time periods and explores themes of murder, revenge, and loss. It provides a bleak portrayal of the economic and social devastation caused by industrial layoffs in the 1990s. The show has received critical acclaim for its writing, acting, and cinematography, and it stands out for its ability to be made in China's restrictive artistic environment. However, the English subtitles are mediocre and could benefit from professional retranslation. [Extracted from the article]
