Abstract
The article focuses on the examination of racial and ethnic caricatures and stereotypes on seed, plant, and food packaging from the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century, specifically exploring offensive Irish American and African American depictions. Topics include the historical use of such imagery in Victorian-era marketing, the parallel portrayal of Irish and African Americans as ridiculous, villainous, animalistic, and the study's emphasis on lesser-known advertising materials.
