Abstract
This article discusses the historical and contemporary shifts in fertility patterns in the United States and their impact on women's representation in politics and labor policy demands. The availability of contraceptives and the legalization of abortion have allowed women to control their procreation, leading to a significant decline in the fertility rate. This decline has enabled more women to delay or forgo having children until they attain education and experience for a political career. Additionally, the decrease in teen pregnancies and the rise in LGBTQ self-identification have contributed to these shifts. However, these transformations are seen as a threat by employers and legislators who rely on parental desperation to sustain low-wage work. Anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ policies aim to push women into more unplanned pregnancies and limit the growing numbers of LGBTQ individuals. The article also highlights the recent rise in teen births in Texas following the state's abortion ban. Overall, these changes have positive implications for young people, but they face resistance from certain sectors of society. [Extracted from the article]
