Abstract
For thirty years there was a lot of talk about the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, there was political speculation on this subject, and parliamentary elections were won under the slogan of accession, but only now in 2022, in three and a half months, the road was completed from a country neighbouring the European Union to a country that is a candidate for accession to the European Union. There is only one step left to take, but which is very difficult and responsible. The Republic of Moldova, through its leadership, is thoroughly willing to take this step as well, contrary to the will of political opponents inside and outside the country. The biggest stake is built on the solidarity of the population, politicians, and elites, because only by supporting each other can we achieve great things. One of them being the accession to the European Union. The case of uncertain relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation is the result of the policy of influence traditionally promoted by Russia. The intermediary is the Transnistrian region which is for the Republic of Moldova in relations with the Russian Federation, a kind of “Achille's heel”. For the realisation of its strategic plans, Russia needs a large plateau where it would realise its geopolitical influence. Its basic intention is to stop the expansion of NATO to the east and the Republic of Moldova, as a space, presents itself favourably for this purpose. Transnistria is too small a space to carry out large-scale works for the deployment of military forces. For this reason, the feeling of uncertainty hovers over the external relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, the grievances of the two states having points of tangency only in the space of tense relations. Obtaining the status of a candidate for accession to the EU, by the Republic of Moldova, increases the dissatisfaction of the politicians from the Kremlin, and secretly they probably generate for it a project similar to the destiny of Ukraine. Moldova is right on the extreme line of Russian imperial ambitions, and our future depends on how we manage this situation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
