Abstract
A pilot study published in the British Journal of Dermatology explored the feasibility of using remote monitoring to track the progression of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic skin disease. The study recruited 27 participants who were sent weekly text reminders to upload photographs of their affected skin and report their symptoms. Over 26 weeks, 421 photos were collected, and participants with milder disease were more likely to complete uploads. The study demonstrated that remote monitoring of HS is possible and may have patient-centered benefits, but further research is needed to confirm these findings. The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health and approved by Stanford's Institutional Review Board. [Extracted from the article]
